Lahaul and Spiti Valley

The Lahaul and Spiti district is a breathtaking high-altitude region in Himachal Pradesh, North India. Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, this entirely mountainous district is made up of two geographically distinct and historically separate cultural units — Lahaul (Tibetan: ?????, Wylie: gar zha) and Spiti (Tibetan: ???????, Wylie: spi ti; or Tibetan: ???????, Wylie: spyi ti). Known for its rugged terrain, pristine landscapes, and rich Tibetan Buddhist heritage, Lahaul and Spiti is the largest district by area in Himachal Pradesh and also one of the least populated districts in India. The district headquarters is at Kyelang (also spelled 'Keylong') in Lahaul, while Spiti’s administrative hub is Kaza.

Today, Lahaul and Spiti is rapidly emerging as one of the most sought-after travel destinations in Himachal Pradesh. Thanks to the improved road connectivity via the Atal Tunnel and growing investment in eco-resorts, adventure sports, and cultural tourism, the region is attracting explorers, bikers, trekkers, and weekend travelers alike. From dramatic valleys, snow-capped mountains, and ancient monasteries to starry night skies and untouched villages, Lahaul and Spiti offer an unforgettable blend of adventure, spirituality, and serenity — making it a paradise for nature lovers and wanderers seeking something truly extraordinary.
